Norrie Point
Exhibition design is highly specific and detail oriented process. This was also an education design, where we had to consider not only the needs of the staff but the students as well.
Project Timeline: Fall of 2019
Location: Kingston, NY
Software: Revit, Photoshop
Project Scope: to redesign the Exhibit Room in the Norrie Point Educational Center in upstate Ny.
Solution: To create new customized fish tanks, and an aesthetic bleacher system for students.
Context
The Norrie Point Environmental Center is located in Millis-Norrie State Park along the Hudson River. The facility includes a conference room, classroom, interpretive exhibits, research lab and weather station. School groups can sign up for programs at the Environmental Center, some include nature walks, seining for fish, canoeing in the marsh, and water testing. The building used to be a well known restaurant in the area and was converted to the Environmental Center.
Inspiration
We used their pre-existing fish sculpture as an inspiration for the color scheme of the room. We then wanted to create more modern fish tank display as well as a more creative modular seating system.

Materials

We chose to use natural wood materials in combination with blue hughes and their pre-existing bick.
Floorplan
We designed a portion of the hallway, the the student learning center room and the vestibule. We decided to keep all of the original flooring except for the carpeting. We decided to propose a blue carpet to represent the lake.

Section of the Vestibule
This vestibule not only serves as an entry to the exterior of the building but also as a bird listening area. We created a bird poster of all of the birds you can find around the lake along with a QR code to scan and listen to them.

Millwork
This millwork was produced by my teammate Karina. It shows how the fish tanks can be operated. There is storage underneath the fish tanks for cleaning supplies and wires. There is also an opening on the top of the fish tank for maintenance/ feeding of the tanks. There is also a power outlet cut out on the top of the tank.

Bleacher Seating Options
The Push In option allows for the seats to all be pushed up against the wall like a normal bleacher set up. There would also be a vent in the back of the top seat to allow for the heater against the wall to escape.

This Second Push In option is the same as the last one except it keeps the original window sill in place to be used as a seat.

This Stacking option allows all of the seats to be taken apart in different parts, stacked and then be moved to the storage closet. It also leaves the window sill in place.
