My Journey

As designers we are responsible for how the buildings we design affect not only users but also the environment. It is our decisions in coordination with architects, engineers, construction workers, landscapers and more that dictate the environment we produce for our communities. It is our responsibility to create spaces that are timeless, healthy, and inclusive. These are the three words that drive me as a designer.

Interior architecture has been a passion of mine since primary school. I noticed at an early age that every space I walked into I analyzed it, what I liked and disliked, the odd lighting, even the window whose glare directly hit my desk around the same time every afternoon causing disrupted vision. My constant analysis of the environment around me led me to where I am today, a student at Cornell University studying Design and Environmental Analysis (D+EA).

D+EA is a diverse major which gives training in multiple aspects of design. Some students go into urban planning, product design, user experience, or like me, interior architecture. My current focus is hospitality and/or workplace design but I am always looking to gain experience is other sectors of design.

I spent the summers of both my junior and senior year of high school interning at TruexCullins. During my time at this Architecture and Design Firm I began to understand more and more what I was getting myself into with this career choice, and I absolutely loved it. The collaboration, traveling, innovation, and ultimately learning something new everyday is what pushes me to get my IIAD certification and become a successful but more importantly innovative designer.

I have also spent time interning at Creative Office Pavilion in which I became very acquainted with Herman Millers' furniture. During the summer of 2020 COVID made it difficult to obtain an interior design internship so I used that summer to branch out within the industry. I worked for Rutland Nurseries doing landscape design as well as Goalden Hour doing website prototyping and logo design.

This summer I interned for Robert Passal Interior Design doing luxury residential work. Working for a smaller firm has allowed me to participate in every aspect of design, from schematics to billing I have been able to grasp the basics of what it takes to run a design firm.
